ICT IN MY SCHOOLING YEARS………

ICT-simply means that Information and Communication Technology,it is a term that includes any technological communication device.Factors prohibiting the successful integration of ICT in South African schools are that other schools has minimal resources as a residential result of the South African apartheid policy prior to1994  and are located in areas that lacks infrastructure. For example where I am from in Limpopo ,my school by the name of Mokone a Mabula also experience the same thing ,it lacks infrastructure ,they do not have access to computers, libraries and a science lab.Other barriers are insufficient of ICT resources for the large classes that has to be taught .Lack of support from the department of Education because the department keeps promising to help develop schools but does not deliver .Lack of computer skills also plays a role .Another factor is resistance to change and negative attitude ,other teacher’s attitudes and inherent resistance to change were a significant barrier.Lack of teachers competence that is another barrier which is directly related to teacher’s competence in integrating ICT into pedagogical practise .Lack of effective training ,the barrier most frequently referred to in literature is lack of effective training .Lack of technical support ,without both good technical support in the classroom and whole school resources ,teachers cannot be expected to overcome the barriers preventing them from using ICT .Lack of training ,the government should provide training courses In dealing with the new devices ,modern technologies and new pedagogical approaches

MY PERSONAL JOURNEY

MY FINAL YEAR IN MOKONE A MABULA SECONDARY SCHOOL IN LIMPOPO

My name is Taetso Matlala from Mohlalaotwane village which is situated in Limpopo province where I was born and matriculated in 2013.

In school I did seven subjects namely Accounting and only god knows how much I hated that subject as we all say it is difficult and the teacher used to give us so much work which added to why I hated it.The 2nd  1 was Sepedi(home language) it was fine we just had to study. The 3rd one was Life orientation oh my, I hate dancing actually I cannot dance to save my life so I just could not wait to finish my matric. The 4th 1 was Mathematical literacy we all wished he would be absent and he was always there and he does not like late comers, he taught me punctuality even though he taught us in the hard way. The 5th 1 was Economics it was not that bad .The 6th 1 was Business studies only god knows how much I love this subject and the teacher was my favourite teacher he was the only one you could ask if you do not understand, and he would say which part did you not understand and we would say all. And he would just laugh and start all over .Whenever it was his period we would just say oh it is Business studies and we just go. The 7th 1 was English (FAL) it was fine. In school we did not have access to internet or library, our teachers would download previous question papers from another provinces. Mokone a mabula is one of the best school in the district amongst other school, it takes the 3rd place in terms of matric results every year since 2010.The school lacks resources even though it produces the best results ever. Educational technology that was used in our subject classes was computer which stayed at the office and we hardly saw it and never touched it ,they only downloaded things and printed them out and gave us copies .The lab of the school is not fully equiped. The school is adopted by Manong Youth Developers ,a non-profit organisation formed by generation students who are now working ,they provide study guides and previous question papers to grade 10, 11 and 12 as well as application forms to from various varsities and often comes to inspire  learners and talks to them about variety of funding available to them. This organisation every year send accountants and other professional bodies to teach us for a week subjects like accounting, physics and life sciences. My matric year was the best year of my life but then again the pressure of the results was the only thing that pushed me to pass my matric because they published our results in the newspapers and our names and I wanted to be in the newspaper too. It was not easy everyday whenever we had to attend Mathematical Literacy I was like oh my word here comes hell but now the more I think about it our teacher Mr Mahlare was only pushing us to pass which he succeeded we passed very well even though we could not wait to finish matric whenever we thought of him. He was the strictest teacher I ever met in my entire life but then again he meant well. We had to come to school even if we did not feel like coming on Saturdays, if you did not come you must have a valid reason in writing why you did not come but now we thank him even though we do not tell him. As well as Mr Mashilo he forced us to come to school on Sundays and we would all be pissed as we did not have fun the whole weekend as we were busy studying and after studying with him, he would give us home test on a Sunday really now? We would all complain but either way we would have to submit the following day during his period. And there is Mr Mphahlele who would go all out to make sure we all understand he was the most friendly ,patient and open teacher ever .During his period he would crack jokes while he teach and we were never bored during a lesson. .And now I’m happy and I am sure we all happy (the commercial matriculants of 2013) as we made it even though pride gets in the way of saying thank you ,we would not have made it if it was not for you.
